Daly by-election – Sept 11

1 Sep 2021

The Northern Territory electorate of Daly is facing a by-election on September 11, and local residents are asking candidates to make a pledge for our rivers and for the communities that rely on them.

Territorians know how much our rivers and water mean to our future – that’s why we must look after them. We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the Murray Darling. Our rivers are too important – we need to do much more to look after them, and that starts with the candidates putting their hands up to represent Daly.

That’s why Territory Rivers – Keep ‘Em Flowing supporters are calling on all candidates in the Daly by-election to make a pledge for our rivers:

“If elected, I will work to ensure that the Daly River stays free flowing and healthy, to protect our local tourism industry, fishing, culture and lifestyle.”

Candidates for the seat of Daly:

Kris Civitarese

Country Liberal

Wayne Connop

Independent

Rebecca Jennings

Independent

Dheran Young

Territory Labor

All candidates in the Daly by-election have now pledged their commitment to protect the Daly River.

It’s not just the Daly that deserves this attention – iconic Territory Rivers such as the Victoria, Adelaide and more flow through the electorate providing sources of food, jobs, wildlife and the lifestyles that make this part of the Top End so special.

Territory Rivers – Keep ’em Flowing will always be non-partisan, and we’ll never tell you who to vote for, but we’re committed to working with communities, stakeholders and elected representatives who stand up to safeguard the health of our Territory Rivers and the Territorians who call them home.
